Most visitors to the village are on a culinary quest and

their expectations will never be disappointed. However,

while finding a good meal may be important, another

aspect of Grand Case may be of interest to you... the nightlife!

Not so very long ago, as soon as darkness fell, Marigot (the rival

big sister) seemed the place to go to find live entertainment and

have a good time. But times have changed and Grand Case is

now the “in” place. It offers something for every taste. All kinds

of options are available, depending on the type of establishment

you choose to visit. Of course, there is nothing to prevent you

from coming back every night to sample different pleasures.

To assist you in your choice, we can classify the restaurants

into three different categories and each one has its own charm.

The traditional local restaurants, called the “Lolos”, are all

side-by-side in the same area, close to the jetty. For just a few

dollars, your plate will be piled high with barbecued lobster,

fish or ribs. The atmosphere is local and you will eat surrounded

by a colorful crowd to a background of reggae, Haitian “compas”

or merengue from the Dominican Republic. This is something

to experience at least once in a lifetime. If you are looking for

a more romantic evening, there is a wide choice of gourmet

restaurants, including the Spiga, Bistrot Caraïbes, Le Tastevin,

L’Auberge, Ocean 82, Le Pressoir and many others, to be found

along the main street. You can’t go wrong. There is only one

street. The dilemma will be which kind of cuisine to choose.

French, Italian, Creole, local fare or seafood specialties...

The final category includes the so-called beach restaurants or

tapas bars, the most famous of which is undeniably the Calmos

Café. Often open later in the evening, many of them are actually

open-air discos, some are more like night clubs offering live music

and shows. They are places to dance as much as to eat and drink.

If you are in a party mood and want to meet people, this is where

you should go...

(There are also a number of hotels in Grand Case and you may want

to spend several days there. Information on accommodation

is available at the Tourist Office.)
